Cookies
A cookie is code either used for the duration of a session (session cookies), or saved within a user’s web browser in order to identify that user, or information about that user, the next time the user visits a website (persistent cookies). The Lifeline Alliance LTCBP website may use Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 cookies as defined in the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) memorandum guidance located at http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/omb/assets/memoranda_2010/m10-22.pdf.
The LTCBP utilizes website usage statistics to assist with improvements to our website and provide a better user experience for those visiting www.lifelinealliance.org. OMB classifies this as a Tier 2 usage since the multi-session web analytics tool employed doesn’t collect any personally identifiable information (PII). This technology anonymously tracks how visitors interact with www.lifelinealliance.org, and includes data regarding what sites referred visitors, what pages or files were accessed, and what, if any, predetermined tasks were completed while visiting the site.
Our website analytics are provided by 3rd party Business Associates, and the usage data collected aids optimization of the website. By interpreting usage data, we prioritize tasks, improve the website’s user interface, and tailor our content to that which most interests website visitors. No PII is collected via this technology, so the anonymity of the end user remains protected. Any usage data collected will be retained only for as long as needed for analysis and optimization of the website, and this information is accessible only to employees whose position requires it.
Typically, web browsers accept cookies by default, thus, disabling this technology requires manual effort. If you decide to opt-out of this technology completely, you can find step-by-step instructions for changing your web browser settings at http://www.usa.gov/optout_instructions.shtml.
Note: Opting-out doesn’t affect your ability to access content within www.lifelinealliance.org or alter how you view the website.
The LTCBP may occasionally utilize Tier 3 persistent cookies that permit cross session and website authentication. Where applicable, the use of such technology on www.lifelinealliance.org will prompt users to opt-in and allow Tier 3 cookies prior to engagement. The LTCBP doesn’t utilize persistent cookies that can be accessed by third-party entities.
